The Finno-Ugrian Society (founded in 1883) is one of Finland's oldest and largest learned societies. Since its establishment, the Society has promoted research on the Uralic and Altaic languages and on the cultures, ethnology, folklore, and prehistory of the peoples who speak these languages.
The Society's principal activity is the publication of scholarly research in its fields of interest. In addition, it organizes nine scientific meetings each year, featuring lectures on topics related to the Society's disciplines.
The Finno-Ugrian Society also supports research and fieldwork through scholarships and research grants. Its archives and collections are available for scholarly research.
